The Houston Dynamo weren’t able to climb out of a two-goal deficit from the opening leg and were eliminated in the Concacaf Champions League quarterfinals after falling to Tigres UANL, 1-0, at Estadio Universitario Tuesday night.

Tommy McNamara had a chance to pull the Dynamo a goal back on the half-hour mark, but he scuffed his first-time attempt from just outside the six-yard box and a sliding Carlos Salcedo cleared for a corner kick.

Salcedo then put the final nail in the Dynamo coffin in the 68th minute. After Enner Valencia headed down a Javier Aquino cross, it fell to Salcedo and the Mexican international fired past Joe Willis from just outside the six-yard box.

Three Things
- THE BIG PICTURE: Unlike the Red Bulls remarkable rally earlier in the evening in Torreon, this was more like a slow burn for Dynamo fans. The tie ultimately was decided in a three-minute span in the final quarter-hour at BBVA Compass Stadium and that’s a tough pill to swallow.
- MOMENT OF THE MATCH: The chances weren’t plentiful, so the Dynamo had to get maximum out of the ones they got. McNamara could have had the home fans worrying about 2018 all over again, but he didn’t fully strike his first-time attempt.
- MAN OF THE MATCH: Salcedo slid to deny McNamara and then ensured Tigres would reach the semifinals with an opportunistic strike before being serenaded by “Titán” chants.
