Lyon dominated cup specialists Guingamp 2-1, with goals from Moussa Dembélé and Maxwel Cornet too much for Alexandre Mendy’s late retort in their last 16 clash on Thursday. OL face SM Caen at home in the quarters.

Coupe de France, round of 16
Stade du Roudourou, Guingamp
EA Guingamp 1 – 2 Olympique Lyonnais
Lyon had won their last four heading into this match – including handing Paris Saint-Germain a first league loss of the season 2-1 on Sunday night – and their confidence showed as they made light work of 2009 and 2014 Coupe de France winners EA Guingamp in Brittany.
OL boss Bruno Genesio rotated his squad lightly for the clash, and it was fresh face Maxwel Cornet who scored what turned out to be the winner (49′), slotting home the excellent Ferland Mendy’s low-hard cross after some fine work from Martin Terrier, also brought into the starting lineup for the match.
Dembélé does it again
Although Alexandre Mendy handed his side a brief flash of possibility in the final minutes when he side-footed into an empty net from Marcus Coco’s cross (88′), a dominant Lyon side always looked likely to win out, especially after the in-form Moussa Dembélé backed up his goal against PSG with an early opener.
Played through the middle of the Guingamp defence by Marcelo’s excellent through-ball, the France U21 international and former Celtic man – OL’s co-top scorer in the league alongside Nabilk Fekir on seven goals – produced a superb nutmeg to beat Karl-Johan Johnsson and set his side on their way to the quarter-finals.
