Miguel Almiron is gone, but that’s not going to stop Josef Martinez from celebrating the way he wants to.
Martinez opened his 2019 account just 47 seconds into Atlanta United‘s Concacaf Champions League Round of 16 second leg tie against Herediano on Thursday night. It pulled the Five Stripes back a goal and gave the Venezuelan an opportunity to celebrate.
Instead of his usual stare, Martinez decided to celebrate the way he’s done with Almiron in the past. The two would often strike a “fusion” pose inspired by Dragon Ball Z. With Almiron now in Newcastle, the 2018 MLS MVP was forced to the pose alone.

We’re sure Almiron was smiling back in England.
