Higuain deal updates, UEFA investigation and Dybala’s dribblings

Chelsea was handed a two-window transfer market ban for irregularities in the international transfer and registration of underage players last week, which might impact the Gonzalo Higuain deal with Juventus. However, according to Calcio & Finanza and other outlets, the Blues could still be able to pick their option to extend the loan or outright sign the player if they do so prior to June 30th and therefore before the next session. The fact that Maurizio Sarri, the biggest proponent of the acquisition, is on shaky ground does not help Juventus case though. El Pipita has scored twice in three appearances in Premier League so far.

Here is the explanation by Andrea Bozza, who is partner at the legal firm Osborne Clarke: “Judicially speaking, there are the bases to say that the transfer market block imposed by FIFA does not have a preclusive effect on Higuain. In the Transfer Matching System, Higuain, albeit on loan, is effectively a Chelsea player and would remain so if they opt to prolong the loan spell or buy him. Technically, there is the ground to support the theory that he would not be a new addition, which would be prohibited by the ruling. The investigation was already ongoing when Chelsea and Juventus were negotiating so I believe that the lawyers of both sides took into account the potential negative effects of it.” The Blues are appealing and the result would obviosly the scenario again.

UEFA announced yesterday that they are investing both coaches for what transpired in Atletico Madrid-Juventus, Diego Simeone for “behaviours that are insulting or violate the ground rules of regular conduct”, Massimiliano Allegri for delaying the start of the second half. The club is likely to get a fine for that.

The CIES took a look at the players who have been able to successfully take on opponents the most in 2018 and Paulo Dybala resulted the best in Serie A in that category, with one dribble every 30 minutes. However, he is only 13th in Europe in the chart that is led by Lionel Messi, Nice’s Allan Saint-Maximin and Eden Harzard. The only other Juventus player to crack the top 50 was Joao Cancelo with one every 36.1 minutes.

The Bianconeri’s athletic trainer Simone Folletti was the recipient yesterday of the “Golden Stopwach Award”, which is assigned to best specialist in that role by his colleagues. Folletti, who has been at the club since the arrival of Massimiliano Allegri, brought home the trophy for the fourth time in a row.
