Newcastle United supporters may be falling in love with Miguel Almiron even faster than Atlanta United fans did.
The record-breaking Paraguayan playmaker stole the show in his first start for the Magpies on Saturday, drawing a game-changing early red card and orchestrating the Newcastle attack from the left side of midfield in a 2-0 Premier League win over Huddersfield Town.
And the St. James’ Park faithful made sure to show their appreciation, giving him a standing ovation when he was substituted out in the 81st minute.

“It was a great day for him and the fans,” said manager Rafa Benitez of Almiron after the match, a victory that was not only key to NUFC’s quest to stay clear of the relegation zone, but also aesthetically pleasing to their long-suffering fans.
Really nice, really loud and really well-deserved standing ovation for Miguel Almiron after a very positive home/full debut. Shame there was no goal, but he lived up to expectations. #NUFC

“He’s very dynamic and he has good movement behind the defenders and between the lines. It’s now important to settle down in the Premier League and understand the mentality of the PL. If he can stay at the same level and score a goal, it will be better,” added the Spaniard of his top winter transfer-window target. “The crowd could see he was a player with energy, and dynamic. If he continues to play at this level they will enjoy his football. We know what he can do.
“He did well. He is a different kind of option. He has been really positive and it was a pity for him that he didn’t score.”
