- Chelsea have reached the final on their last three entries, winning in 2014/15 and 2015/16 and finishing runners-up in 2017/18, while Montpellier are debutants (though their women lost to Chelsea in last season’s UEFA Women’s Champions League quarter-finals)
- Neither Midtjylland nor United have ever got beyond the round of 16
- Dinamo are the only Croatian side to reach this round, previously losing 3-0 at Anderlecht in 2015/16
- Ajax won 3-0 at Lyon in the 2015/16 round of 16 with Matthijs de Ligt and Donny van de Beek among those involved
- Barcelona, like Chelsea, have won two titles (beating the Blues in the 2017/18 final), while Hertha are tournament newcomers.
- Porto won 2-0 at Tottenham in last year’s quarter-finals
- Hoffenheim are making their debut
- Both Madrid sides lost in last season’s quarter-finals, Atlético beaten by Barcelona
