Real Madrid coach Santiago Solari believes that if UEFA add an additional game to Sergio Ramos’ ban in the Champions League it will be the media’s fault.
Ramos admitted ‘forcing’ the booking he received in the 2-1 win against Ajax which rules him out of the second leg.
The defender’s comments appeared to confirming that he was booked on purpose so that he could miss the return game and be free to play in the quarterfinal without fear of a suspension.
But Ramos has said his comments were misinterpreted and Solari has blamed the line of questioning.
“With respect to Sergio, he’s given an explanation and clearly said that he was referring to forcing the foul [not the booking],” the coach said ahead of Sunday’s game against Girona.
“Sergio was asked a trick question. You [journalists] have your methods and it’s fine but he has explained himself.”
UEFA are investigating if Ramos deliberately picked up a yellow card. Dani Carvajal did the same last season and was handed an additional game ban.
