TRANSFER TRACKER STATUS: Report
A veteran Scottish attacker’s next destination could be in MLS, according to a new report.
The Scotsman reported on Friday that Hearts manager Craig Levein said Steven Naismith is drawing interest from an unnamed MLS team or teams, with the player considering his options.
The 32-year-old is on loan at Hearts from English club Norwich City this season. Perhaps best known for his stint in the Premier League with Everton from 2012-16, he’s also played in his native Scotland for Kilmarnock and Rangers, and has 49 caps for the Scottish national team.
With Hearts currently in fifth place in the Scottish Premiership, looking to move up the table into European qualification places, it is perhaps not surprising Levein is looking to hang onto Naismith.
“We have very open and honest discussions,” he said. “I think he will want to be a coach, for sure, and I would suggest that when he’s a coach maybe he should go to the MLS, and finish his playing career here.”
