Real Madrid head coach Santi Solari believes that club captain Sergio Ramos answered a “trick question” over his late yellow card in the Champions League round of 16 tie against Ajax on Wednesday.
UEFA opened disciplinary proceedings against Ramos on Thursday after he admitted to deliberately picking up a booking in Madrid’s 2-1 win in Amsterdam before later retracting on social media.
The defender could face a two-match Champions League suspension when UEFA hear the case on Feb. 28.
“With respect to what Sergio said, he gave appropriate explanations,” said Solari in his pre-game news conference. “It was a trick question, you [the media] have your methods and your weapons.”

Solari also dismissed speculation that forward Gareth Bale could face a La Liga ban for his goal celebration in the 3-1 victory over Atletico last weekend.
“It’s not a big deal for me, we’re giving it too much importance,” he said.
Asked whether he would want Madrid to extend his contract after Diego Simeone and Ernesto Valverde signed new deals at Atletico Madrid and Barcelona respectively, Solari was keen to point out that he is happy with his situation at the club.
“I renewed until 2021 three months ago,” Solari said. “I’m happy for my colleagues. We are very focused on the present and in the football, the next game is the present. It seems to typical to say but it’s true. The team is training very well. We’re hoping to produce another great performance tomorrow in a very important game for us.”
