Report: Timbers signing Ivacic requires surgery, transfer fee renegotiated

New Portland Timbers goalkeeper Aljaz Ivacic has reportedly arrived to the United States with an injury that will require surgery.

That comes from a report from Jamie Goldberg at The Oregonian, who says the surgery on the newcomer’s leg, will sideline him an estimated 6-8 weeks.

Ivacic, 25, joined the Timbers this offseason on a transfer from Olimpija Ljubljana. The Slovenian was brought in to compete for the starting goalkeeping spot in Portland.

Goldberg’s report also noted that as a result of the pre-existing injury, the Timbers successfully renegotiated Ivacic’s transfer fee, saving approximately $200,000 as a result.

Portland will open the 2019 MLS regular season on March 2 at the Colorado Rapids.
