Aaron Ramsey was not used in his best position at Arsenal and can offer Juventus something different when the midfielder joins them next season, the Italian club’s director Fabio Paratici has said.
Ramsey, 28, is set to join Juventus on a four-year deal after signing a precontract agreement with the defending Serie A champions this week as his deal at Arsenal expires at the end of the season.
The Wales international has played in a number of midfield positions and also played as a wide forward during his 11-year stay at the north London club, but Paratici insists Juventus should play him as a mezzala — an advanced role in a three-man midfield — to make use of his goal scoring ability.
“Ramsey is a player who, in my opinion, has never found his position, because he has never played as a ‘mezzala’ in a three, which is his role,” Paratici told Gazzetta dello Sport. “He’s more technical, he’s a final ball man, he has a nose for the goal. He is a different player from what we’ve got, we don’t have someone like him in our squad.”
Paratici also said that Juventus manager Massimiliano Allegri and forward Paulo Dybala will not be leaving this summer.
Sources have told ESPN FC that Allegri is one of the candidates to take the full-time manager position at Manchester United after Jose Mourinho was sacked and Ole Gunnar Solskjaer installed as interim boss.
The Italian took over as Juve boss in 2014 following the departure of Antonio Conte and has won four successive Serie A and Coppa Italia doubles and reached the Champions League final on two occasions.
“I believe he will stay,” Paratici told La Gazzetta dello Sport when asked about Allegri. “I really don’t see a better manager.”
Meanwhile, Dybala has been linked with a move to Real Madrid as well as other top European sides following a difficult period at the Allianz Stadium in which he reacted badly to being an unused sub in the recent 3-3 draw with Parma.
However, Paratici said the Argentina international is going nowhere — and that there are very few better options available.
“Dybala is staying,” the director said. “Only people who want to go will leave Juve.
“I repeat, it is difficult to find better players than those we already have.”
Asked who would be an upgrade on Dybala, Paratici said: “It is difficult. Maybe [Lionel] Messi, even with Neymar I’d have my doubts.
“And Dybala is someone who is always available. He plays every game.”
