The Philadelphia Union have put up a win and a draw so far in Preseason presented by Advocare and will be looking to keep the preparations going, as they face USL Championship side Birmingham Legion on Wednesday in Florida.
Philadelphia Union
The Union are coming off a scoreless draw against the University of South Florida over the weekend, and head coach Jim Curtin noted the performance in a deluge was a good lesson for the preseason.
“Defensive, we were good, limiting chances,” he said. “Not our best night with the ball, obviously the elements played a role, the field kind of flooded, so we weren’t able to pass and move like we hoped. At the same time it’s preseason, brings us back down to earth a bit.”
Birmingham Legion
Pro soccer comes to Alabama this year, as Legion FC will kick off their inaugural season in the USL Championship. The team’s first head coach is longtime New England Revolution player and former manager Jay Heaps. With the team in their first preseason, the roster is still under construction, but the nascent team has several players with MLS experience, including veteran midfielder Eric Avila and forward Chandler Hoffman, who is a Birmingham native.
