NYCFC’s new offseason acquisitions received their first minutes for the club in a 2-0 loss to Danish Superliga leaders FC Copenhagen in a preseason friendly played in Abu Dhabi.
While NYCFC had a few opportunities in the first half, goalkeeper Brad Stuver also needed to come up with a few big saves to keep the match scoreless.
Copenhagen had a goal called back after the break due to an offside infraction, but they would eventually get their goals through Robert Skov. He curled in a free kick 13 minutes from time and just two minutes later he was first to a loose ball in the box.
NYCFC continue preseason training in Abu Dhabi and will next face Swedish side AIK Stockholm on February 8. Here’s how head coach Domenec Torrent reacted to the result:
“It’s our first test. The most important thing is to get minutes. The young players played really well and I’m very happy with them. We have time to improve. The most important thing is no injuries, and get minutes. Our performance was good.” – @DomeTorrent
