UEFA recommend three Irish bases for Euro 2020

Carton House, Portmarnock Hotel and Golf Links and the FAI National Training Centre in Abbotstown are the three Irish bases recommended by UEFA for Euro 2020.

The three Irish venues have been included in an online catalogue of hotels and training bases published by UEFA for the 2020 European Championships, which will be held across Europe.

The Aviva Stadium is one of 12 stadiums that are hosting four games each in the tournament, which has been spread over 12 countries to celebrate its 60th anniversary.

Dublin will host three group games and a last-16 fixture during the tournament.

After visiting more than 150 hotels and over 100 training centres in the last two years, the team facilities catalogue includes training centres of some of Europe’s top clubs, including Bayern Munich, Roma and Zenit St Petersburg, as well as Luton Town’s ‘The Brache’ training ground.

In a statement, UEFA Events chief executive Martin Kallen said: “As Euro 2020 is unique, with 12 host cities across Europe staging the finals, a unique approach was also required in the selection of the team base camps.

“To emphasise the vital role that the host cities play, each team base camp is located within a 60-kilometre radius of each stadium hosting matches in the final tournament.

“This proximity will help limit the travel distance for the national teams and allows them more time for optimum match preparations.

“It is an important factor that will ensure that their ‘home away from home’ will provide the best possible experience during EURO 2020.”
