TRANSFER TRACKER STATUS: Report
Will LuchoRoo go beyond Year Two?
D.C. United are in discussions with Luciano Acosta over a long-term contract the club hopes to announce before the start of the 2019 season, according to Steve Goff of The Washington Post.
The Argentine midfielder is reportedly in the final year of his contract and could sign a pre-contract with another club in the final six months of his current deal. If that happened, United would not receive a transfer fee.
The 24-year-old arrived on loan from Boca Juniors before the start of the 2016 season and was acquired permanently at the end of that season. He’s been the lynchpin of the United attack, with 18 goals and 33 assists in 87 regular season starts over 95 games in his first three seasons in Major League Soccer.
Buoyed by the arrival of Wayne Rooney from Everton, the native of Buenos Aires enjoyed a Best XI-caliber season in 2018 with career highs in goals (10) and assists (17, second in the league). He had nine goals and 10 assists following Rooney’s midseason addition.
