Coupe de France, round of 32
Le Stadium, Toulouse
Toulouse FC 4 – 4 Stade de Reims – Toulouse won 4-3 on penalties
It was a real nail-biter for Toulouse ad Reims came calling in the Coupe de France round of 32. Three times Alain Casanova’s side went in front – twice thanks tho Aaron Leya Iseka – and three times they were caught by Reims, who took the lead in extra time before Max-Alain grade saved Toulouse’s skin by making it 4-4 form the spot with just a minute to go.
The TFC captain also took what turned out to be the winning penalty in the resulting shoot-out, youngster Mathieu Cafaro crashing his corresponding effort off the cross-bar in a dramatic end to a breathless encounter.ith just three points separating Reims (11th) from Toulouse (13th) on the Ligue 1 Conforama table, Tuesday’s cup tie should be an evenly matched contest for a place in the Coupe de France round of 16.
Stade Louis II, Monaco
AS Monaco – FC Metz – Kick-off at 20:55 CET
Fresh from a 5-1 league hammering at the hands of Strasbourg, AS Monaco coach Thierry Henry was doubtless hoping for better against Domino’s Ligue 2 side FC Metz. And while there was an encouraging sign as captain Radamel Falcao cancelled out Gauthier Hein’s spectacular opener, Monaco came unstuck after the hour-mark.
Unsighted, ‘keeper Daniel Subasic could do little to stop Marvin Gakpa’s 25-metre curler on its way to the back of the net and he was nowhere to be found when Ibrahima Niane had the simplest of tap-ins to make it 3-0 minutes later. Although Falcao hit the post and Niane had a goal ruled out for a foul on Subasic, the score remained unchanged and Monaco went crashing out of the tournament.
Stade Marcel-Picot, Nancy
AS Nancy Lorraine – EA Guingamp – Kick-off at 18:30 CET
Just days after a 9-0 walloping at the hands of Paris Saint-Germain, two-time Coupe de France champions Guingamp gave themselves a dose of the best medicine by clinching qualification in their favourite competition. It was no walk in the park against Domino’s Ligue 2 side Nancy, who surged in the second half and cancelled out Ronny Rodelin’s opener through Santy Ngom just after the hour-mark.
Nancy were rewarded for their efforts by forcing extra time, but Guingamp hit back hard in the extra half-hour and had stopper Papy Djilobodji for a triumphant header that snuck in under ‘keeper Guy Ndy Assembé and sent the Brittany club shooting into the round of 16.
Stade Louis-Michel, Sète
Jonathan Bamba was the hero for LOSC as they clinched qualification 1-0 away to fourth-fourth-division FC Sète. Without man of the moment Nicolas Pépé in the starting line-up or on the bench, Christophe Galtier’s side endured some nervy moments as Sète carved out a number of chances to level the scores. However, they dug deep in defence, held firm and made sure of a place in the last 16.
