After three seasons with the LA Galaxy, defender Ashley Cole has returned to his native England, to sign for Derby County.
The English Championship side announced the move on Monday, with the 38-year-old reuniting with his former Chelsea teammate and one-time NYCFC midfielder Frank Lampard, who now manages the side.

Cole was the Galaxy’s starting left back the last three seasons, and served as captain in his stint stateside. He registered three goals and 12 assists in 86 MLS regular season appearances, but the Galaxy failed to live up to lofty expectations in his time in MLS, particularly in missing the MLS Cup Playoffs the last two seasons. His option was declined by LA following the 2018 season.
Derby sit in sixth place in the Championship at present, just inside the promotion playoffs places. They will look to reach the Premier League this season, Lampard’s first in charge of a professional team.
