Sevilla are interested in signing Chelsea forward Alvaro Morata in the January transfer window, a club director has said, but added that any deal is a “very, very complex operation.”
Morata joined the London outfit for a reported club-record fee of around £60 million from Real Madrid in the summer of 2017. However, he is not a regular starter under Maurizio Sarri.
The Spain international has scored five goals in 16 Premier League appearances but has not found the back of the net in the league since Nov. 4 and has been linked with a move away.
“It is true that we have monitored Morata’s situation but it’s also true that it’s a very, very complex operation because of the cost of the transfer,” Sevilla sporting director Joaquin Caparros told the club’s TV channel.
Reports in Seville claim that the player’s agents have informed Sevilla that the 26-year-old is prepared to reduce his wages in order to join them on loan.
Morata, who is tied to Chelsea until June 2022, reportedly earns €9m net per season and is a target for teams in Italy and Germany. However, he is keen to sign for Sevilla, according to Caparros.
“It’s true that he [Morata] may want to move to Sevilla above other options but I reiterate that it’s a hugely difficult move because Chelsea is a difficult club to negotiate with,” Caparros said. “Negotiation is an art.
“We do have good and experienced negotiators at the club.”
Alvaro Morata is a transfer target for Sevilla in this January window.
Caparros also said that Barca forward Munir El Haddadi is also a possible option to strengthen Sevilla’s attack.
Munir has reportedly turned down a new contract with Barca, with his deal ending this summer.
“Munir is an option that we have,” he said. “His contract is ending and he has told his club that he will not renew.
“We have monitored him in recent seasons. He is young player that fits the profile that we are looking for.”
Caparros said Sevilla can offer players the best possibility to prove themselves. The club are third in La Liga and have scored 31 goals in 18 games, making it the second best attack in the competition after Barcelona.
Sevilla have also qualified for the Europa League round of 32.
“After Barca, who have the best footballer [Lionel Messi] in the world, we are the team that has scored the most goals,” Caparros said. “We are working well collectively.
“I do think we have the best team and the best coaching staff in the division. We want to strengthen the team because we are very demanding and we want to increase competitiveness in the squad.”
