Arsenal transfer news: Ligue 1 expert predicts PSG deal won’t happen

The French champions are currently under investigation by UEFA following allegations in September they had broken rules designed to prevent over-spending.

The club have appealed to the Court of Arbitration for Sport, but heavy punishments including the threat of being booted from European competition still looms.

And with the concerns surrounding the Parc des Princes, it is thought they will keep their business in the transfer market to a minimum.

Ligue 1 expert Jonathan Johnson believes Ramsey had initially been on PSG’s radar.

“Ramsey was definitely someone PSG considered”

But he thinks they have put off an approach in the short-term due to FFP concerns – though he did not rule out a potential move should PSG come through the investigation unscathed.

“Ramsey was definitely someone PSG considered in the approach to the January transfer window,” Johnson told the Transfer Talk podcast.

“However, it’s my understanding that Ramsey is now closer to Juventus than anyone else. PSG never really wanted to take those talks seriously.

“The issue PSG have, at this moment in time, is there’s so much up in the air for them in terms of Financial Fair Play.

“They are waiting to hear back from the Court of Arbitration for Sport about where their appeal for UEFA stands.

“Of course, UEFA still have to finish their investigation into FFP so a lot hinges on the Court of Arbitration for Sport at this moment in time.”

PSG are currently having issues in midfield due to a lack of numbers – usual centre-half Marquinhos currently filling in.

They are also due to lose Adrien Rabiot at the end of the season to Barcelona, leaving Lassana Diarra, Marco Verratti and Julian Draxler as their only recognised options in the middle of the park.

And Johnson has concerns over their pulling power due to their current financial situation, leaving them with a dilemma.

“PSG are faced with a conundrum this January. They need midfield reinforcements,” he added.

“Thomas Tuchel wants midfield reinforcements and they are faced with either trying to bring someone in from the bargain basement or look towards next summer with the possibility of spending big and really strengthening in terms of quality reinforcements.

“PSG’s main targets in midfield in the medium to long-term future is Frenkie de Jong from Ajax.

“Ramsey was one of those names that he considered however, the costs associated with bringing a player from the Premier League were deemed too high.

“PSG haven’t really followed through in their interest. At this moment in times, it sounds like Ramsey is closer to Juventus than anyone else.”
