TRANSFER TRACKER STATUS: Signing
After being out of contract with Sporting Kansas City, Khiry Shelton has found a new home in Germany, signing with 2. Bundesliga side SC Paderborn 07, the club announced.
The 25-year-old forward, who arrived in Kansas City following a trade with New York City FC last December, had two goals and five assists in 20 appearances — and 15 starts — in his lone season with SKC.
Shelton, who is signed until June 30, 2021, had six goals and 10 assists in three seasons with NYCFC, which selected him No. 2 overall in the 2015 MLS SuperDraft.
Sporting KC confirmed on Nov. 30 that they had extended a bona fide offer to Shelton, meaning that they retain his rights within MLS, should he return to the league.
Joining Shelton at SC Paderborn, which is currently seventh in 2. Bundesliga, is Mohammed Kamara, a 21-year-old Liberian-born forward who played at UCLA. Kamara, who was reportedly a considered a candidate for a Generation adidas contract, signed through June 30, 2020.
