Man United’s Pogba has internet buzzing again with latest ‘caption this’ Instagram post

Steve Nicol breaks down Manchester United’s latest win over Bournemouth and the turnaround of Paul Pogba since United sacked Jose Mourinho.

Paul Pogba is in the news for something on or off the pitch seemingly every day, and while Man United were in action Wednesday vs. Newcastle, it was Pogba’s Instagram account that will have the press and the internet buzzing. Never shy on social media or for the tongue and cheek, Pogba posted a “caption this” contest on a “cheeky” photo taken during Wednesday’s match.

The photo, which was taken following a tackle from Newcastle’s Jonjo Shelvey, pictures Pogba lifting up his shorts and pointing to where Shelvey caught him. Take one glance at the photo and the most obvious caption that comes to mind is one relating to Pogba telling Shelvey — or a certain former manager — where to kiss, but that is not the only layer to this post.

The significance of the “caption this” caption is actually twofold, as you’ll remember Pogba recently got into some hot water for the same caption appearing on a post that appeared right after Jose Mourinho’s sacking. Eventually, Adidas claimed responsibility for that post saying it was previously scheduled, but the timing and Pogba’s well-documented rocky relationship with Mourinho sure seems like quite a coincidence.

Pogba has been making headlines on the pitch of late, as the World Cup winner has scored four goals and provided three assists since Ole Gunnar Solskjaer took over. That being said, Pogba has never been one to miss a chance to stir the pot and have some fun. Man United beat Newcastle 2-0 on the day, but as is usually the case, Pogba is sure to be the centre of attention, as internet detectives scramble to decipher the deeper meanings of the Frenchman’s post.

A match and a tongue-and-cheek social media post in the same day? Just another day in the “Pogverse.”
