The Chicago Fire have acquired Brazilian central defender Marcelo from Sporting CP, the club announced Thursday. A Bola reported the transfer fee to be €500,000.
Marcelo, 29, has spent the entirety of his senior career in Portugal, with the bulk of his time at Rio Ave, making 198 appearances. He won the club’s Player of the Year award in 2012-13. He played in only one game for Sporting this season, his first with the club.
