PSG clash against Montpellier suspended this weekend after deadly riots in France

PARIS SAINT-GERMAIN’S clash against Montpellier set to take place this weekend has been postponed due to the deadly riots rocking the country.

An 80-year-old woman died in Marseille and masked protesters in the capital have run riot as people revolt against proposed fuel tax increases.

The Ligue 1 clash has been postponed at the request of the police and a new date is yet to be announced.

It is believed police forces did not think they would have enough free personnel to monitor the game at the Parc des Princes effectively.

The nationwide protest movement, named the ‘gilets jaunes’, or yellow vests, have been protesting since mid-November against President Emmanuel Macron’s plans to increase taxes on diesel.

This is the latest setback for PSG after superstar Neymar was forced off the pitch in their 2-2 draw against Bordeaux.

That draw saw Thomas Tuchel’s side lose their 100 per cent win record in the French top flight this season.

Neymar also chose to sit out the prestigious Ballon d’Or ceremony last night – despite it being held on his doorstep.

The Brazil forward instead decided to play Call of Duty, with Lionel Messi and Cristiano Ronaldo also snubbing the event.

Luka Modric was crowned men’s winner, while the inaugural women’s title went to Ada Hegerberg.

But her achievement was overshadowed when co-host Martin Solveig asked her if she knew how to twerk.
