Report: FC Dallas expected to make offer for Venezuelan Yeferson Soteldo

TRANSFER TRACKER STATUS: Report

With the Oscar Pareja era over at FC Dallas, it appears the club may pivoting in its approach to replace the production that left with summer departure Mauro Diaz.

According to Chilean radio station ADN, Dallas staff traveled to Chile last weekend to watch Venezuelan international and Universidad de Chile midfielder Yeferson Soteldo and his side’s match against Deportes Iquique on Sunday.

Soteldo played all 90 minutes of that 0-0 draw and started in the No. 10 role Diaz vacated when he accepted a move to the UAE in early July. ADN reports the club are expected to make a formal offer for Soteldo to Huachipato, which has loaned him to U de Chile.

Three weeks after Diaz’s departure in July, FCD announced the signing of apparent replacement Pablo Aranguiz, another 21-year-old from a Chilean top flight side, Union Espanola.

But Pareja turned to Aranguiz for only 283 minutes over nine league appearances — including three starts — following his arrival, and did not utilize him at all in a 2-1 Knockout Round playoff defeat to the Portland Timbers on Halloween night.

Soteldo has four goals and seven assists over 24 appearances in the current Chilean season, and also has played in five Copa Libertadores matches. While he dons the No. 10 for U de Chile, he has also played at both wide midfield positions during his career. Unlike Aranguiz, Soteldo has senior international experience, appearing seven times for the Vinotinto.

FCD announced on Monday that they declined their option on Roland Lamah, who was tied for the team lead in 2018 with eight goals.
