UEFA deems Wembley pitch for Tottenham vs. Inter Milan ‘acceptable but disappointing’

UEFA has said the Wembley Stadium pitch is fit for Tottenham Hotspur’s Champions League clash against Inter Milan on Wednesday, but sources say European football’s governing body is disappointed by the appearance of the worn-out turf.

The Group B clash will be the seventh game on the pitch in just over four weeks, with an NFL match and two England games being played at the venue alongside Spurs’ fixtures as the Premier League club wait to move to their new stadium.

It is a must-win fixture for Tottenham as they seek a place in the knockout stages of the competition.

UEFA is not happy with the aesthetics of the pitch, which has bumps and patches of mud, but is satisfied enough for the game to go ahead.

“The playability of the Champions League match, Tottenham-Inter, is not compromised,” a spokesperson told Reuters.

Inter are second in Group B, three points ahead of third-placed Spurs, who have four points.

Barcelona lead the group on 10 points and face PSV Eindhoven on Wednesday before their final game at home to Spurs next month.
