Sevilla leapfrogged Barcelona and Atletico Madrid to go top of La Liga after they beat Real Valladolid 1-0 at the Estadio Sanchez Pizjuan.
Andre Silva’s eighth league goal of the season was enough to ensure the Andalusian club moved to the summit above Barca and Atletico, who drew 1-1 at the Wanda Metropolitano on Saturday.
The win means Sevilla — whose sole domestic league championship came in the 1945-46 season will begin December as the leading team in La Liga.
After their Europa League trip to Standard Liege on Thursday, coach Pablo Machin’s team will travel face Alaves on Sunday, Dec. 2.
Alaves, this season’s surprise package, had themselves spurned the opportunity to top the table this weekend when they lost 1-0 at Leganes on Friday.
