Manchester United eye £30m defender; Liverpool linked with Ligue 1 star

United linked with 22-year-old

Manchester United are looking to sign Sampdoria defender Joachim Andersen in the January transfer window, according to reports from Mirror Football.

United have been scouting the 22-year-old centre back for the last few months with Mourinho ready to make his move.

Anderson is thought to be worth £30m with the Italian keen to get their asking price for the talented defender and that could see the deal waiting until the summer.

Martial to sign new deal

Anthony Martial is set to sign a new bumper deal at Manchester United to put an end to speculation about his future.

Martial had looked set to leave Old Trafford after reports of a poor relationship with manager Jose Mourinho especially over the summer.

However, the 22-year-old has enjoyed an impressive season at United with five goals in his last four Premier League games.

This has seen the club work on getting a deal over the line and Mail Online Sport now suggest that the contract is close to being signed.

He looks set to pen a deal keeping him at the club until 2023.

Defenders to leave

Jose Mourinho is ready to let Chris Smalling and Victor Lindelof leave the club according to former Man City defender Richard Dunne.

Dunne has been speaking to Mirror Football ahead of the Manchester derby at the weekend and he says that he expects the defensive to leave because the boss doesn’t trust them.

He said: “It’s not easy for United because when you look around the world there aren’t that many centre-backs playing at that top level who they can get from other clubs.

“Since the days of Rio Ferdinand and Nemanja Vidic United have struggled to get a settled two and I’m sure as soon as Mourinho has the opportunity he will change the two he has now for different ones” said Dunne, speaking exclusively to 888sport.

“At the moment he has Lindelof and Smalling but they don’t inspire confidence throughout the team and as soon as that transfer window opens I’m sure they will be out looking for centre-backs again.

“For whatever reason the centre-backs they have now are not only making mistakes but are also being injured a lot and missing games. That’s made it difficult to form any partnerships.

“To win league titles you always have to be solid at the back and United just haven’t been able to find that partnership to give them the base.”

Reds eye youngster

Liverpool are keeping close tabs on promising Toulouse defender Jean-Clair Todibo.

The 18-year-old has been a key player for the Ligue 1 side this season and his displays have attracted interest from across Europe.

However, his future is uncertain after failing to sign a new deal and he will be available on a free next summer.

That has brought about interest from England with the Reds and Premier League rivals Wolves in the hunt.

One to keep an eye on ahead of January.
