In-form Emiliano Sala scored again as FC Nantes won 2-1 at Amiens SC on Saturday to register a second successive Ligue 1 Conforama triumph.
Amiens SC 1-2 FC Nantes
THE MATCH
Sala had struck a hat-trick in last weekend’s win over Toulouse, but it was Gabriel Boschilia, the man who got the other goal in the commanding 4-0 win, who opened the scoring at the Stade de la Licorne.
The Brazilian, who is on loan from AS Monaco, has looked in particularly fine fettle in recent weeks, and he was in the right place to finish easily when Régis Gurtner could only push Abdoulaye Toure’s shot into his path (16′).
But for Ciprian Tatarusanu’s fine save from Saman Ghoddos (44′), Amiens would have been level just before the break, and the hosts should have equalised when Mathieu Bodmer got a shooting opportunity shortly after it — the former LOSC Lille, Olympique Lyonnais and Paris Saint-Germain midfielder, however, failed to hit the target (50′).
Snap up
Nantes responded with a Valentin Rongier rising shot that cleared the crossbar (53′) before Sala made the decisive contribution — after Touré had sent Boschilia through, Gurtner blocked the Brazilian’s effort but the predatory Sala was there to snap up the loose ball (71′).
A Juan Ferney Otero blockbuster very nearly brought the hosts back into it (77′) before Bodmer headed past Tatarusanu to briefly raise hopes Amiens, who had won their previous two home games, could escape with a point (82′).
They would have too but Tatarusanu pushed out Prince-Désir Gouano’s back-post header (90+1′) to give coach Vahid Halilhodzic a second win in just his third match in charge.
THE PLAYER: Gabriel Boschilia
The Brazilian is now showing why Monaco had faith in him. After fully recovering from a serious knee injury, he now has three goals and has been consistently impressive this season.
THE STAT: 8
Sala now has eight league goals this season — just four short of the 12 he has netted in each of the last two top-flight campaigns.
