For a player supposedly mired in a goal drought, Mohamed Salah added to his perfectly respectable season tally again on Wednesday night by finding the net in Liverpool’s 4-0 drubbing of Red Star Belgrade.
Salah scored a goal either side of half-time at Anfield, his fifth and sixth goals of the campaign — thus becoming the fastest player in Reds history to reach the 50-goal mark by bringing up his half-century for the club in just 65 games.
Mohamed Salah kept the gift close to him as he left the pitch.
The Egypt international even earned a special little present from the crowd at full-time, with a fan handing over a gift-wrapped parcel in exchange for his jersey.
What was actually inside the parcel is anybody’s guess, but we’re more than happy to speculate.
Perhaps a voodoo doll of a certain Real Madrid defender? Or maybe one of the various, ultra tacky Salah-shaped lanterns that flooded the markets of Cairo this year?

Of course, it could have been a DVD of all the goals he scored last season on the way to being crowned PFA Players’ Player of the Year, FWA Footballer of the Year, Premier League Golden Boot winner, Premier League Player of the Season, PFA Team of the Year member, Liverpool Fans Player of the Year and Liverpool Players’ Player of the Year.
You know, just to get him through this “rough” patch that he is supposedly going through.
