Paris Saint-Germain’s Wang Shuang becomes first Chinese scorer in Uefa Champions League

Chinese international footballer Wang Shuang has become the first Chinese to score in the Uefa Champions League.

Dubbed ‘Lady Messi’ by her fans, the forward hit the second goal in Paris Saint-Germain’s 2-0 win over Swedish side Linkoping FC in the women’s edition of the tournament.

Recovering the ball from an opposition defender, Wang let fly from outside the area and wrong-footed the goalkeeper with the aid of a massive deflection from a defender.

The strike was her third goal since moving to the French capital in August.

She also netted on her debut and scoring in the last three appearances.

Wang scored in the 80th minute to add to Marie Antoinette Katoto’s opener before she was substituted in stoppage time.

They carry their 2-0 first leg win into the second leg of their round of 16 fixture at home on October 31.

The 23-year-old signed a two-year contract with the French side after leaving Wuhan, in what was her third stint at the club where she started her career.

She had only returned their after leaving Chinese champions Dalian Quanjian, where she won two league titles in a row, and also spent time in South Korea with Daejeon Sportstoto.

Wang has been capped 86 times for China and scored 25 goals including the winner over the United States national team in 2015, ending their 104-game unbeaten home record.

She will be the biggest name in the squad when they travel to the Women’s World Cup in France next year.
