What is the UEFA Nations League?
The UEFA Nations League is a biennial football tournament that replaces most of the international friendly matches on the FIFA International Match Calendar.
Currently in its inaugural season in 2018, the tournament features 55 teams from across Europe competing in four leagues determined by their coefficient rankings as of October 11, 2017. League A holds the higher-ranked teams while League D is comprised of lower-ranked national squads.
Both England and Spain are competing in League A.
The leagues are further subdivided into four groups comprised of three national teams, with the top four League A squads going on to compete in a scheduled June 2019 finals held in a European city yet to be determined.
The top four national football squads will also automatically qualify for the UEFA Euro 2020 finals.
