Kamano at the double as Bordeaux down Nantes

Yann Karamoh (5′) and François Kamano (7′, pen. 42′) were on target as Girondins de Bordeaux roared past FC Nantes with a 3-0 victory at the Matmut Atlantique on Sunday.

THE MATCH

Les Girondins could barely have got off to a better start, with Karamoh picking up on Lukas Lerager’s pass before smashing the ball high into Ciprian Tatarusanu’s goal (5′). Visiting Nantes barely had time to digest that goal before Tatarusanu was once again picking the ball out of his net, this time after François Kamano had capitalised on a defensive mix-up between the big Romania ‘keeper and Matt Miazga (7′). Nantes – who parted ways with coach Miguel Cardoso on Tuesday – settled down after that harrowing first ten minutes, and Gabriel Boschilia nearly pulled one back with a speculative attempt from outside of the box, but Tatarusanu’s opposite number Benoît Costil reacted well to push the attempt out for a corner (21′). The hosts pulled further clear with half-time approaching, though, with Kamano earning a penalty from Miazga before dusting himself down and converting from the spot to complete his brace (42’).

WATCH: Bordeaux 3-0 Nantes

The traffic continued to flow in the same direction in the second half, and Kamano came close to sealing his hat-trick when Karamoh got past his man and cut the ball back, but for once Tatarusanu came out on top, with the forward’s shot nestling safely in the goalkeeper’s arms (53′). Karamoh has looked like he is enjoying life following his summer loan transfer from Inter Milan, and he created another chance minutes later, but this time Younousse Sankharé blazed his shot over (55′). Jimmy Briand replaced Andreas Cornelius at the tip of the Bordeaux attack for the final 15 minutes and came close to getting his own name on the scoresheet when he span past Diego Carlos, but his shot was tipped over (76′). Carlos then headed over Costil’s bar at the other end (78′) and it ended 3-0.

THE PLAYER: François Kamano

Kamano was simply irrepressible on Sunday, poking and probing the Nantes defence and finishing with aplomb with chances he had earned for himself. At 22, the winger-turned-forward looks to be coming into his physical prime, and is now only one goal off his best-ever season tally of eight, with only nine games played.

THE STAT: 8

Bordeaux are now unbeaten in their last eight Ligue 1 Conforama matches against Derby de l’Atlantique rivals Nantes. The last time Les Canaris picked up all three points against Les Girondins in the French top flight was December 2014.
