Hannover coach Andre Breitenreiter said he always believed in Bobby Wood’s qualities after the United States forward scored twice in a 3-1 win over Stuttgart on Saturday.
Wood, 25, headed home twice to score his first goals for the club and lift them off the bottom of the table.
Having joined Hannover on loan from relegated Hamburg in the summer, Wood has needed time to settle.
“It wasn’t the easiest situation for Bobby at Hamburg, as for all who were there,” Breitenreiter said. “In spite of that, we were convinced of his qualities.”
Hannover captain Waldemar Anton told reporters: “I am extremely happy for Bobby.”
Wood praised the club’s management and his teammates for boosting his confidence.
“I never had any pressure,” he said. “Staff and team always had my back. I had the feeling that if I work I will be rewarded. That’s what they all told me time and time again.
“I am delighted to have scored two goals, but even more for the three points we’ve won. We were in a difficult situation, and it’s great that we as a team have finally rewarded ourselves.”
