Saman Ghoddos scored another Ligue 1 Conforama stunner as the Iran international hit the net in spectacular style to help Amiens SC to a 1-0 win over Dijon FCO on Saturday.
Amiens SC 1-0 Dijon FCO
THE MATCH
Dijon arrived at the Stade de la Licorne with confidence low, winless in five, no goals in three, and lacking their most menacing forward, Julio Tavares, sidelined by an adductor injury.
Unsurprisingly, they were on the back foot before the break, but their forward, Benjamin Jeannot, still came desperately close to breaking the deadlock.
He met Naïm Sliti’s cross with a touch and volley that had little wrong with them, but the former FC Lorient forward saw his effort ricochet off a post after beating Regis Gurtner (37′).
While Gurtner had some fortune, he must have had a touch of sympathy for his opposite number, Runar Alex Runarsson, as the Icelandic goalkeeper was comprehensively beaten by Ghoddos for what proved to be the matchwinner shortly afterwards.
Ghoddos strike
The Swedish-born attacker has already had some memorable moments in his flourishing career in France, and Runarsson was on the receiving end of another in the shape of a sublime, vicious dipping effort that gave the hosts a half-time lead (39′).
Dijon showed plenty of willing after the break, but even the introduction of former France international Yoann Gourcuff (71′) failed to inspire Olivier Dall’Oglio’s men as Amiens, who would have had a second through Gaoussou Traoré but for Runarsson, made it six points from their last five league outings.
THE PLAYER: Saman Ghoddos
His goal was good enough to win two games and Amiens will be thankful they beat off the challenge of a host of clubs to pick him up from Östersunds this summer. There is surely a lot more to come.
THE STAT: 3
With three goals in his first seven Ligue 1 Conforama appearances, Ghoddos is Amiens’ leading scorer this season.
