Neither OGC Nice coach Patrick Vieira nor Toulouse boss Alain Casanova were happy as their sides had to settle for a point apiece in Friday’s Week 9 curtain-raiser.
Toulouse FC 1-1 OGC Nice
Alain Casanova (Toulouse coach): “We didn’t do the first half we had hoped for, and that’s because our opponents played very well. Nice pressed us high up the pitch and stopped us bringing the ball out. We lost confidence and caused ourselves problems. We didn’t want to give them the ball, and in the end we weren’t determined enough or close enough to them in the challenges. It looked like we were down to ten men. It was normal they open the score. In the second half, the team showed extraordinary mental resources. We went after them a bit more, put pressure on their three centre-backs. We got back into it by taking risks and could even have won it. Overall, I’m frustrated by our first half and happy with the second.”
Patrick Vieira (Nice coach): “There is lots of frustration. I am annoyed and disappointed. We should have won this match and returned to Nice with the three points. We were better, unfortunately we weren’t able to score that second goal that could have put it beyond doubt. We were caught out by naivety and youth, and there was a lack of experience in the key moments of the game which cost us dearly. It’s a huge disappointment because our game was serious, we were disciplined, we tried to control the game. To leave here with one point, it’s not enough.”
