Olympique de Marseille boss Rudi Garcia was not a happy man after his side relinquished a two-goal lead to draw 2-2 away to Apollon Limassol; Bordeaux’s Eric Bedouet and Rennes’ Clément Grenier also had tough nights.
UEFA Europa League, Matchday 2
Group H
Apollon Limassol 2-2 Olympique de Marseille
Rudi Garcia (Olympique de Marseille coach): “There is plenty to be angry about tonight. We were well in front and should have killed the match off. We should have been more aggressive so they didn’t have a chance to get back into the game. We ruined it tonight, and this draw feels like a defeat. When you’re 2-0 up away from home, you can’t be satisfied with anything but all three points.”
Group C
Bordeaux 1-2 Copenhagen
Éric Bedouet (Girondins de Bordeaux coach): “You always have a lot of regrets after a match like that. The second half was animated and intense, but we were unlucky in a number of instances. I think we need to realise that you have a to have a bit more grit to mix it at the highest level. Overall, I can’t fault my players – they gave their all. But you have to be capable of killing off a match.”
Group K
Astana 2-0 Rennes
Clément Grenier (Stade Rennais midfielder): “We’re trying to get back on track, but unfortunately at the death they hit us hard on the counter. We’re creating chances but the ball just doesn’t seem to want to go in. We need to do more, all together, to be able to get through this tough moment. But you have moments like this in a career, in a squad, in a team. You need to pull together to get through them. If we all do a little bit more, we won’t be far off the mark. And when we get through to the other side, we will be the stronger for it all.”
