UEFA Champions League, Matchday 2, Group A
Borussia Dortmund 3-0 AS Monaco
Leonardo Jardim (Monaco coach): “We played well in the first half. We were dangerous, we moved the ball well, and coped with our opponents. After that, we put ourselves in danger for the goals we conceded. With the system we put in place, we played better, but defensively we paid dearly for our mistakes. After conceding the first goal, it was tough for us. We gave them space and Dortmund too advantage. The team tried to play, but we didn’t manage to score. We’re going to play Brugge in our next two games. We need to come out with six points. The two coming matches are the most important for qualification for the Europa League.”
Andrea Raggi (Monaco defender): “We gave them the first two goals. We’re in a period like that, it’s tough. We have to pick ourselves up. We have to focus on the league, we have a key match on Sunday, and we have to win. We’ll come out of this difficult period all together, through hard work. Of course, there have been a lot of changes, but we have to turn things around quickly. I think it’s a little bit in our heads. We are creating a lot of chances, we did that against Saint-Étienne and again in the first half here, but we’re not putting them away. And we’re making serious mistakes and we concede goals each time.”
Nacer Chadli (Monaco midfielder): “We did well in the first half, we caused Dortmund problems. We had a lot of possession. They started the second half better than us. They played well in the second half, and we weren’t able to press them like we had done in the first. Of course we’re disappointed, especially after a first half like that. They scored twice, and the game was all but done and dusted.”
