UEFA Champions League, Matchday 2, Group F
Olympique Lyonnais 2 – 2 Shakhtar Donetsk
Bruno Genesio (Olympique Lyonnais coach): “It was a very complicated first half in which we were dominated in every area, but we showed character to come back after half-time. I am satisfied that my team came back, although I would have liked to see us take one of our chances to get a third goal. Shakhtar also had chances to score a third, so it was a fair result. We struggled without the ball. Dembélé did well to get us back in the game but he also needs to learn from these games to gain experience. We must not judge his game solely on the three chances he missed. Sometimes one has more or less luck in that regard. He just needs to keep his confidence. Playing behind closed doors is not football. Football should be played in front of fans with an atmosphere, especially in the Champions League. It was very unpleasant.”
Paulo Fonseca (Shakhtar coach): “We had a two-goal advantage and everything was going fine. We had dominated the first half. But after the break we had problems in the final third. We didn’t know what to do anymore, how to react. And the two goals scored by Olympique Lyonnais were deserved. We were warned that they were a fearsome team going forward. If we had won today, we could have been more relaxed before playing Manchester City.”
