The United Soccer League – which currently organizes some of American soccer’s top lower-division leagues – has undergone a rebrand, one that will sound familiar to fans of English lower league soccer.
The second tier, which fans know this year simply as the USL and this year features all MLS-affiliated teams, will be called the USL Championship; the third tier, the USL’s previously reported Division III that will start play in 2019, will be USL League One; the fourth tier, currently known as the USL Premier Development League, will be USL League Two.
The new structure and branding will go into effect for the 2019 season.
