Nice left Nantes still without a home win this season as Les Aiglons won 2-1 at Stade de la Beaujoire.
THE MATCH
Nice were very good on the counter and got the better of a Nantes side that featured Anthony Limbombe and Gabriel Boschilia from the outset. It could all have been so different for Nantes as home captain Valentin Rongier (13′) hit the post.
Patrick Vieira’s Nice took the lead (31′) as Nice generally had the better of proceedings. Pierre Lees-Melou invited Allan Saint-Maximin to race onto the ball and he outwitted Matt Miazga before pulling the ball back for Christophe Jallet, the veteran full-back scoring with a shot that went in off the post.
Myziane Maolida (41′) went close and then Saint-Maximin (43′) was also near to scoring a second on the counter after a Nantes corner. Emiliano Sala (57′) maintained his great record against Nantes by equalising as he raced in behind Dante and beat Walter Benitez to mean he’d been involved in Nantes’ last five goals against Nice, scoring four of them and adding an assist.
Sala (63′) had a good chance to give Miguel Cardoso’s side the lead before Jean-Victor Makengo (69′) rzstored Nice’s advantage, dispatching the ball beyond Ciprian Tatarusanu from a Racine Coly cross. Rongier (86′) could have snatched a point for troubled Nantes, who are a lowly 18th in the table going into the Wednesday games. Nice climbed into the provisional top half with their third win under Vieira.
THE PLAYER: Christophe Jallet
Recently back from eight months out with calf and knee injuries, the French international full-back is delighted to be back performing on Ligue 1 Conforama pitches. Now 34, Jallet’s third game into his comeback resulted in the UEFA EURO 2016’s squad member’s first Nice league goal since joining from Olympique Lyonnais in the summer of 2017.
THE STAT: 11
Nantes have failed to score more than a single goal in any home game in their last 11 matches, since a 2-2 draw with Lille on February 11.
