Sebastian Giovinco’s Campeones Cup lasted just 40 minutes.
The attacking dynamo exited Toronto FC’s game against Tigres UANL at BMO Field on Wednesday, in the inaugural edition of a one-off cup game between the champions of MLS and Liga MX, shortly before halftime due to an apparent injury.
It was not immediately clear how Giovinco was injured, but Giovinco hit the deck as another TFC player, Justin Morrow, appeared to be getting ready to sub out of the game himself. Instead, the Italian departed, replaced by Lucas Janson.
Giovinco goes to the bench. Not down the tunnel. Wasn’t happy. Pitch came up in a couple spots. Struggled to get involved. And was taken down before he left.

After halftime ESPN sideline reporter Sebastian Salazar revealed that “The Atomic Ant” had been sidelined by calf cramps.
In his 40 minutes of play, Giovinco had three shots and served two corner kicks for Toronto, both of which led to clear chances for the Reds.
