Friday is the true deadline day.
2018 Roster Freeze deadline day in MLS, that is. Teams have until 5 pm ET on Friday to submit their final 30-man rosters for the season, with no changes or additions allowed through December 9, the day after MLS Cup, except in cases of Extreme Hardship.
The secondary transfer window in MLS closed on August 8 this year, but teams were still allowed to sign free agents, make loan moves and waive players until the roster freeze deadline. With the roster freeze, rosters are finalized for the final weeks of the MLS regular season, culminating in Decision Day on Oct. 28, and then for the Audi 2018 MLS Cup Playoffs, concluding in MLS Cup on December 8.
Any signings MLS teams make after Friday’s deadline will not be eligible until the 2019 season.
A number of teams have already been making last-minute moves to shore up their rosters ahead of the deadline, with RSL’s move for veteran defender Nedum Onuoha all but official and New England making a move for Argentine forward Guillermo Hauche on Thursday.
