PSG are sweating over a UEFA investigation into their finances.
As Express Sport revealed on Friday, UEFA’s decision over whether or not to punish PSG for supposed FFP breaches has been delayed.
The French club are being investigated over their finances after signing Neymar are Kylian Mbappe for a combined £334 in the past 12 months.
European Football’s governing body had initially dropped their case on PSG in July.
But La Liga asked UEFA to look into the decision upon appeal.
The complaint from the Spanish authorities stems from Neymar’s move to the Parc des Princes from Barcelona last summer.
UEFA DELAY FFP DECISION
Barca thought the player’s £200m release clause was effectively watertight as no club wold be able to pay that fee up front.
But that is exactly what PSG did in a hostile transfer.
Now Real are waiting for UEFA’s decision on how PSG managed to afford both Neymar and also Monaco’s Mbappe without breaching FFP spending limits.
Spanish newspaper AS claim the decision will be made on Monday, with repercussions likely if UEFA deem the French champions to have breached the rules.
As reported earlier this week, PSG could be hit with a fine from UEFA or, more worryingly, could be forced to sell some of their top players to avoid being kicked to of European football.
And that’s where Real come in. According to a raft of Spanish newspapers, Real could pounce on a move for Neymar or Mbappe if PSG are forced to sell up.
Neymar may have only left Spain for life in Paris last summer but the Brazilian is said to have had contact with Bernabeu president Florentino Perez over a proposed transfer.
His father is said to have spoken to Perez via an intermediary, agent Wagner Ribeiro.
Real are seeking a new superstar striker after selling Cristiano Ronaldo to Juventus this summer in a £105m deal.
They were linked with moves for Harry Kane and Robert Lewandowski this summer, as well as Inter Milan’s Mauro Icardi.
Kane will remain at Tottenham and Bayern are refusing to talk to Lewandowski’s agent until after the transfer window closes.
A move for Valencia’s Rodrigo is also in doubt as Real are unwilling to pay his £107m release clause.
Therefore, a deal for Neymar could make sense but the La Liga giants will have to act fast to secure a deal if PSG are somehow forced to sell.
PSG would much prefer to keep Mbappe over Neymar, with the Frenchman having won the World Cup with his home country this summer to become possibly the most marketable football star on the planet.
