DeAndre Yedlin knee injury ‘not serious’ Newcastle confirms

American DeAndre Yedlin hobbles off at the end of the match with an apparent knee injury.

The knee injury suffered by United States international DeAndre Yedlin in Newcastle’s 2-1 loss to Tottenham on Saturday is “not serious,” the club has confirmed.

In a statement on their website, Newcastle said the quick right-back “has been assessed and undergone treatment this week and is likely to resume training with his teammates shortly.”

Yedlin took an awkward fall while challenging for the ball late in the second half, and the former Seattle Sounders star received lengthy treatment on the pitch before slowly limping off.

Television cameras showed him putting minimal weight on his right leg as he walked down the tunnel with the help of a trainer, and the Newcastle Chronicle later reported he left St. James’ Park on crutches.

Newcastle boss Rafa Benitez had said Yedlin would have tests to determine the extent of the injury and those exams provided the club with good news on Wednesday.
