Attacking midfielder Alexander Baumjohann has signed with Western Sydney Wanderers for the upcoming A-League season, where he will join forces with new coach and fellow German Markus Babbel.
Baumjohann, 31, has played most recently in Brazil with Coritiba and Vitoria, having previously spent time at some of Germany’s biggest clubs.
He was a member of the Schalke 04 team that lost to Manchester United in the 2011 Champions League semifinals and has also played at Bayern Munich and Borussia Monchengladbach.
Alexander Baumjohann will join fellow Germans Markus Babbel and Patrick Ziegler at Western Sydney Wanderers.
The former German under-17 and under-21 international with link up with new coach Babbel and another German player, Patrick Ziegler, at the Wanderers.
“Of course Markus Babbel played a big role for my decision to sign with the Wanderers but I already knew a lot about the club because of this incredible history of winning the [Asian Champions League] in just the second year of the club,” Baumjohann said.
“I want to help to bring this great club back to where it belongs.”
