The MLS Disciplinary Committee has issued two additional suspensions, fined four players, one coach and one team, and warned two teams, following Week 23 of the 2018 MLS regular season. In addition, another coach has been fined for violating a league policy.
Chris Mavinga violent conduct
The Disciplinary Committee has suspended Toronto FC defender Chris Mavinga an additional game (two games total) and fined him an undisclosed amount for violent conduct after the final whistle of TFC’s 2-2 draw against Atlanta United on August 4.
Mavinga, who received a red card for his actions, will serve his red card suspension during Toronto’s next MLS regular-season match on August 12 (vs. NYCFC) and his additional one-game suspension on August 18 (vs. San Jose).
In addition, Mavinga was issued an undisclosed fine for failure to leave the field in a timely and orderly manner after the final whistle.
Yoshi Yotun violent conduct
Orlando City midfielder Yoshi Yotun was suspended an additional game (two games total) and issued an undisclosed fine for violent conduct in second-half stoppage time of their 3-3 draw vs. New England on August 4. Yotun, who originally received a red card for his actions, will serve his red card suspension during Orlando’s next MLS regular-season match on August 12 (vs. D.C.) and his additional one-game suspension on August 24 (vs. ATL).
Orlando-New England mass confrontation
Both the New England Revolution and Orlando City SC were found to be in violation of the mass confrontation policy during the 94th minute of the teams’ match on August 4. Orlando City and head coach James O’Connor have been issued an undisclosed fine after the club’s third violation this season. The Revolution have been issued a warning; it’s the club’s first violation of 2018.
Houston Dynamo mass confrontation
The Houston Dynamo were issued a warning for the club’s first violation of the mass confrontation policy during the 90th minute of the Dynamo’s 1-0 loss to Sporting KC on August 4.
Croizet simulation/embellishment
Sporting KC midfielder Yohan Croizet was fined an undisclosed amount for simulation/embellishment in the 7th minute of Sporting’s 1-0 victory over Houston.
Stephen simulation/embellishment
Real Salt Lake midfielder Sunday “Sunny” Stephen was fined an undisclosed amount for simulation/embellishment in the 64th minute of RSL’s 2-1 victory against the Chicago Fire on August 4.
Petke violates suspended coach policy
Real Salt Lake head coach Mike Petke was issued an undisclosed fine for entering a prohibited area in violation of the suspended coach policy during RSL’s 2-2 draw with Colorado on July 21 against the Colorado Rapids. Suspended coaches are prohibited from entering the bench area, locker room, or field level.
