Liverpool manager Jurgen Klopp feels his side has to fight even harder than their Premier League rivals to battle for the title.
Liverpool have assigned new goalkeeper Alisson Becker the No. 13 squad number for the upcoming campaign, while Loris Karius continues to occupy the No. 1 shirt.
Alisson, who joined Liverpool from Roma in a £56 million deal last month, already sported the No. 13 for his two appearances in Liverpool’s preseason, and the club confirmed on Friday that would remain the case this season.
The Brazilian goalkeeper, who will have “A. Becker” on the back of his jersey, is set to make his Premier League debut on Sunday against West Ham United.
His transfer fee was the highest ever for a goalkeeper until Chelsea paid £71.5 for Athletic Bilbao’s Kepa Arrizabalaga earlier this week.
Liverpool also confirmed fellow summer signing Fabinho has been given the No. 3 squad number, having also been handed that number temporarily for the summer friendlies.
Meanwhile, young striker Rhian Brewster, who signed a five-year contract in July, has acquired the No. 24 shirt — last occupied by Joe Allen.
Earlier in the summer, Liverpool announced that Sadio Mane had changed his squad number from No. 19 to No. 10 following Philippe Coutinho’s exit in January.
