There was no move for Patrick Roberts on England’s transfer deadline day with Huddersfield Town considering a loan swoop for the Manchester City winger, but instead opting to sign Isaac Mbenza from Ligue 1 side Montpellier.
That leaves the 21-year-old with several options: a loan move to the Championship, a move to another league which has an open transfer window, or to stay at City and most likely get very little game time.
And according to a report by talkSPORT, Patrick’s future could lie abroad with four teams registering an interest in signing him.
One of them, Girona FC, should come as no surprise given that they are Manchester City’s La Liga partner club and could offer Roberts some experience in the Spanish top flight. The Catalan club have only signed Aleix Garcia so far from City, and are still waiting to learn if Brahim Diaz will be made available to them.
Meanwhile, three clubs in France’s Ligue 1 have registered an interest in Roberts, with Bordeaux, Rennes and St Etienne all keen to acquire his services. At Bordeaux, Roberts could be viewed as a replacement for Malcom, who recent left for Barcelona in a €41million deal.
Roberts has been linked with a return to Celtic, but that is rated as unlikely with the youngster finally ready to test himself in one of Europe’s top five leagues.
