Matt Miazga is going on loan again, and yes he is going to a Ligue 1 side in France. However, it’s not Caen, as was widely reported a week ago. Nantes, who have the option to purchase his contract on a permanent basis at the end of the season, is the destination.
Miazga, an American international, spent the last two seasons on loan with Vitesse Arnhem of the Dutch Eredivisie. The 23-year-old picked up some silverware during his time in the Netherlands, wining the Dutch cup in 2016/17.

“The athletic central defender,” reads the club’s official news release, “who has done all the preparation with his club, will quickly put his qualities at the service of Miguel Cardoso and the collective Nantes.”
Miazga, a New York Red Bulls academy product and New Jersey native, has made just two appearances in a Chelsea shirt, and that came way back in 2015-16 when interim manager Guus Hiddink was in charge following the sacking of Jose Mourinho. While there is no current place for him at Stamford Bridge, perhaps a third season out on loan, plus the regime change to Maurizio Sarri, will provide an opportunity for him someday.
He still has loads of potential, as he was coveted this summer by several teams.
