The dust is starting to settle in Madrid after Cristiano Ronaldo’s exit, and Sid Lowe explains why the mood is so good in the Real camp.
Alexis Sanchez and Ander Herrera scored in the first half to lift Jose Mourinho’s side to a 2-1 win over Gareth Bale and Real Madrid.
Real Madrid captain Sergio Ramos has returned to training ahead of the International Champions Cup game with Juventus outside Washington, D.C.
Ramos had a slightly longer holiday than Madrid’s other Spain internationals, missing the 2-1 defeat to Manchester United on Monday, but the team said in a statement the defender was working with coach Julen Lopetegui during a session in suburban Miami on Wednesday.
It was in that session that Gareth Bale apparently sustained a slight injury, according to multiple reports, with the forward sitting out the remainder of training as a precaution because of his history.
Meanwhile, Lopetegui’s Twitter and Instagram accounts have been deleted amid complaints about his retweet of a message critical of reporters asking too many questions about Cristiano Ronaldo.
Lopetegui had approximately 141,000 followers on Twitter and 274,000 followers on Instagram, but according to Cadena Ser, he decided to leave social media after his account retweeted a message from a local fans’ group leader who criticised a “tiresome” number of questions about Ronaldo at a recent news conference.
